Peregrinedocs

Getting Started

Peregrine is designed to get you from install to a polished storefront quickly. This guide covers installation and the first-hour checklist.

Installing the theme

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. Click Add theme → Upload zip file and choose the Peregrine zip. (Once Peregrine is on the Shopify Theme Store you'll be able to add it directly.)
  3. Peregrine appears in your theme library. Click Customize to open the theme editor and explore before publishing.
  4. When you're ready, click Publish to make it your live theme.
Tip: customise Peregrine as an unpublished theme first. You can preview everything, then publish when it looks right — shoppers never see the work in progress.

The first-hour checklist

1. Logo

The header and footer each have their own logo picker with a width control — set them under Header and Footer in the section list. If you use the transparent homepage header, you can also set an alternate (usually white) logo that swaps in automatically while the header is transparent.

2. Colours & typography

Open Theme settings (paintbrush icon) → Colors and Typography. Peregrine uses your choices as global design tokens — every section inherits them, so two colour choices restyle the whole store consistently. See Theme Settings for the full reference.

3. Menus

Peregrine reads standard Shopify navigation menus (Content → Menus in admin; older admins call it Online Store → Navigation). Assign your main menu in the Header section. Nested menu items become dropdowns automatically; the Header & Navigation chapter has a step-by-step for building menus and upgrading one to a full-width mega menu.

4. Homepage

Peregrine ships with a complete demo homepage: slideshow, trust strip, collection list, featured collection, promo tiles, story, testimonials, blog posts and newsletter. Replace the demo content with your own — every section is documented in Homepage Sections.

5. Collection and product pages

Both are configured per section in the editor, and both are worth ten minutes each before you launch: the collection page for column counts, quick add and how shoppers page through a long collection, and the product page for the gallery layout, which is the single biggest visual decision in the theme. Filtering is separate and comes from Shopify's free Search & Discovery app — see Collection Filters.

6. Markets (optional)

If you sell in more than one country or language, enable them under Settings → Markets in Shopify admin. Peregrine's currency and language pickers appear automatically in the utility bar and mobile menu once two or more are active — there's nothing extra to configure in the theme. Selling in local currencies needs Shopify Payments, and a market must be Active (not Draft) to appear — the Header & Navigation chapter walks through both pickers step by step.

Understanding the editor

Everything in Peregrine is merchant-editable — there is no hardcoded content. Three levels to know:

Performance note: Peregrine only loads the CSS and JavaScript for sections actually on the page. Removing a section removes its weight entirely — your homepage gets faster as it gets simpler.
