Contact page

A contact form built into the theme — name, email, phone and message, delivered by Shopify to your store's email address, with no app and no third-party form service.

Setting it up

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Pages and create a page (or open your existing Contact page).
  2. Give it a title — "Contact us" — and, if you like, some introductory text in the page content.
  3. In the Theme template box on the right, choose contact.
  4. Save, then add the page to a menu under Navigation so people can find it.

The page's own title and content become the heading and intro, so a simple contact page needs no theme settings at all. Set the heading and intro in the theme editor only when you want them to differ from the page itself.

The form

Four fields: Name, Email, Phone and Message. Email and message are required; name and phone are not, and the phone field can be switched off entirely if you would rather not ask for it.

Where a customer is signed in, their name and email are filled in for them.

Settings

SettingWhat it does
HeadingLeave blank to use the page title.
Intro textLeave blank to use the page content.
Show phone fieldOn by default. Turn it off if a phone number is not something you need.
Button labelLeave blank for the theme's default wording.
Thank-you messageWhat is shown after a successful send. See below.
Show store address, phone and emailOff by default. Pulls your details from Settings → General and shows them beside the form — only the ones you have actually filled in.
Details heading and Additional detailsA free-text column beside the form for opening hours, directions, or anything else worth saying.

The details column disappears entirely when both the store-details switch and the additional text are empty, so the form is full width rather than sitting next to a gap.

Where the messages go

Shopify delivers them to your store contact email, set in Settings → General → Store details → Sender email. This is a Shopify feature rather than a theme one — the theme does not store messages, and there is nowhere in the theme to read them.

Check that address is one you actually read. The most common cause of "the contact form doesn't work" is that messages are arriving perfectly at an address nobody opens. Send yourself a test message after setting the page up.

Errors and the thank-you

If something is wrong — a missing message, a malformed email address — the page returns with a summary at the top and the specific fields marked. The summary takes focus so that someone using a screen reader is told what happened rather than being returned silently to the top of a page.

On success the form is replaced by your thank-you message, rather than the page reloading with an empty form and a small note somewhere. Replacing the form is what makes it unambiguous that the message actually went.

Spam protection

Shopify applies its own bot protection to this form; it is configured under Settings → Customer privacy, not in the theme. You may occasionally see a challenge before a message sends. That is expected, and it is why an automated test of this form is not a substitute for sending one yourself.
